Aloha, Avocado Group friends!
What follows are seven examples of my video work, ranging from a 30-second commercial to a music video to an interview featurette. Feel free to explore the rest of my website as well. Thanks so much for the consideration!
COMMERCIAL.
Here’s a short video I made for a local North Shore restaurant. I shot all the footage, edited the video, licensed the music, created the graphics — the whole thing.
MUSIC VIDEO.
In February 2020 (about a month before the pandemic hit the U.S.), I traveled with surf-punk band SPELLS on a 10-city tour of the west coast. I shot all the footage and handled every last bit of editing and production for this video.
COMMUNITY.
After working with the owner and staff of Maya’s, I was moved to create this promotional video for an event series they hosted last fall. All proceeds from the event benefitted out-of-work restaurant workers, so I produced this video (very quickly) for no charge.
DOCUMENTARY FEATURETTE.
From several years back, here’s a short interview featurette with novelist Nile Southern — the son of legendary writer Terry Southern. I produced this for Art on Film, an annual summer film series in Denver. The interview footage wasn’t much to work with, but I’m proud of the actual editing work I did here.
NEPOTISM, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.
This is a promotional video in support of my wife’s art. It’s built around photos rather than live video footage, and it’s truly homemade from start-to-finish. She was painting on our back patio in preparation for an exhibition, so I grabbed my camera and shot photos for about 10 minutes. Then I created some music, titles, graphics, structure, calls to action, and pieced it all together in 24 hours. I’m proud of it (but not as proud as I am of her).
COMMERCIAL.
Disclaimer: I’m nervous about including this, because it was literally my first paying video project and I’ve come a long, long way in the years since. But I’m including it anyway because I think even with the subpar footage and raw technique, it shows that I’ve always had a good sense for how to tell a compelling story concisely.
Ultimately, I produced a series of 30-second promotional videos for this veterinary hospital. The idea was to create three distinct messages: one, a baseline introduction to the business; two, a display of the family-like bonds at their clinic; and finally, this statement of values:
EVENT RECAP
From a mountain of photos, I pulled together this recap/promo video for Denver Design Week, an event I co-founded in 2016.
Again, mahalo for the consideration. I’d love the chance to talk with you about the position. Hope to hear from you.
Warmly,
Dominic (a.k.a. Charlie Keaton)
